FSoS 1301, Cash or Credit: You Need to Know

Prerequisite: Entering freshmen and sophomores only.


  Course Description :
 

Money management. Responsible use of credit, specifically credit cards. On-line course: 15 Web-based lessons.

  Course Objectives / Goals:
 

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Discuss terms and concepts relating to basic money management and the use of credit.
  2. Discuss reasons why people use credit and the pros and cons for using credit.
  3. Describe the different types of credit card accounts.
  4. Describe what determines his/her credit card worthiness and how to secure a credit card.
  5. Discuss ways to manage a credit card account and how to avoid fees and finance charges.
  6. Establish his/her own debt limit.
  7. Describe signs of over indebtedness and what options are available to get out of credit.
  8. Implement a record-keeeping system to track his/her income and expenditures.
  9. Discuss the importance of being financially literate and its implications on a personal level, the community, the political process, amd the public world.
