FSoS 8033, Problems in Families

Prerequisite: FSoS 5032 or equivalent, or instructor consent


  Course Description :
 

Family therapy assessment/treatment approaches to problems such as depression, alcoholism, and sexual abuse, and to the challenges of varying family structures such as single parent/remarried families.

  Course Objectives / Goals:
 
  1. To help students develop their understanding of fmaily therapy approaches to major health and mental health problems.

  2. To help students appreciate and understand the historical, sociocultural and ethical contexts of treatment for major health and mental health problems.

  3. To help students understand recent clinical developments in therapy with marital dissolution, single parent families, and remarried families.

  4. To help students analyze contemporary issues in fmaily therapy related to gender, race, ethnicity, ethics, and larger systems.

  Workload:
 

At least 9 hours per week, including class time
