Perspectives on family dynamics of various racial/ethnic populations in the United States/other countries in context of national/international economic, political, and social processes. |
|
| Course Objectives / Goals: | |
a. To know the basics for understanding the family life of people in various cultures and various racial/ethnic groups as they might understand it themselves. b. To recognize personal, social, cultural, mass media, and other barriers to understanding the family life of people in various cultural, racial and ethnic groups. c. To recognize key ways family and kin are important to people in various cultural, racial and ethnic groups. d. To understand key effects on families throughout the world of the policies of the U.S. and other governments, of international corporations, and of key international agencies. e. To define major moral issues concerning families in the U.S. and around the world. f. To acquire an overview of important family issues and experiences of various American racial and ethnic populations. g. To acquire an overview of the history of various racial and ethnic family populations in America. h. To recognize and understand key dynamics and effects on families of racism, privilege, discrimination, obliviousness, and ignorance. i. To understand important elements and consequences of personal and institutionalized racism. |
