Family Consultations

Dementia Care is Family Care.

"You have dementia." These words change your life.

Getting a diagnosis of dementia can feel like being thrown into a game you don't know how to play. You may (or may not) what dementia is, but you don't know what it means for you now. What does this mean for day-to-day life from here on? It is important to remember that you can't do this alone. As a family there are some first steps that you can take to ensure that everyone begins a conversation to understand what this means - for each individual. By participating in a Family Consultation facilitated by the Family Caregiving Center team you can begin to learn some of the answers to these questions – both for yourself and for your family. A session involves all family members who the diagnosis touches. We encourage as many people be involved as possible. A session can last anywhere from 90 minutes to 120 minutes. There will be two trained and experienced facilitators that will guide you and your family through the session.
