Caron, W. (In Preparation) Caregiving across the biopsychosocial continuum: An intensive study of caregivers in therapy.
Abstract: This study examines self-rated satisfaction across ten realms of the biopsychosocial continuum for Alzheimer's caregivers in therapy. Aggregate studies of caregivers have established the negative impact of Alzheimer's caregiving on physical, psychological, and relational well-being. Few studies have attempted to systematically examine the experience of caregivers overtime across multiple dimensions of the biopsychosocial continuum. And few studies have taken an intensive look at caregiving. Ten caregivers seen over the course of two years in psychotherapy completed ratings of their satisfaction across ten biopsychosocial realms each session. Aggregate analysis indicates caregivers experience decrease satisfaction across all realms with the exception of psychological self. However, examining individual trends on a case-by-case basis shows a wide variety of patterns over time. Further research examining individual pattern and change is recommended to supplement large scale aggregate studies.
