Sponsored Projects Administration - Home page for the Office of Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA).

  • Electronic Grants Management System (EGMS) - The University of Minnesota’s online system for proposal preparation, submission, and tracking.

  • SPA Directory - Find phone numbers and contact information for SPA Grant Administrators.  If you don’t know who the correct Grant Administrator is for your project, call SPA at 612-624-5599.

  • Research Policies & Procedures  - Links to University of Minnesota policies and procedures related to research. 

  • Facilities & Administrative (F&A) Rates - The University of Minnesota’s federally-negotiated rates for charging facilities & administrative costs (also known as indirect costs) to grants and contracts.

  • Institutional Information - Numbers and other identification information frequently requested by sponsors.

Fostering Integrity in Research, Scholarship, and Teaching (FIRST) - Formerly known as Responsible Conduct of Research, FIRST conducts mandatory training sessions for principal investigators.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) - Forms, schedules, and other information related to the University of Minnesota IRB review of the use of human subjects in research.

Internal Funding Sources - Grant programs conducted by various organizations within the University of Minnesota.

Corporate & Foundation Tracking List - These organizations should be approached only in partnership with the University of Minnesota Foundation.

Funding Databases

Grants.gov - A searchable database of all competitive funding opportunities from federal grant-making agencies.  Also offers subject-specific email notification of new announcements.

Community of Science (COS) - The University of Minnesota maintains a subscription to Community of Science, a commercial online research database.  Through COS, faculty, staff, and students may search for funding sources, previously funded research, and researchers at other institutions, as well as sign up for personalized funding alerts via email.  You must register and establish a free account in order to use COS.

Sponsored Programs Information Network (SPIN) - SPIN is a commercial online database to which the University of Minnesota maintains a paid subscription.  Faculty, staff, and students can access SPIN to search for funding opportunities.

Federal Agencies

National Institutes of Health - Home page for the National Institutes of Health, including links to individual institutes and health information.

  • National Institute of Child Health & Human Development - Home page for NICHD, which sponsors research on topics related to the health of children, adults, families, and populations.

  • National Institute of Mental Health - Home page for NIMH, which sponsors biomedical and behavioral research that will transform the prevention of and recovery from mental disorders.

  • Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research - The OBSSR’s mission is to stimulate and coordinate behavioral and social science research across the various institutes of the NIH.  Includes a listing of cross-institute funding initiatives.

  • Center for Scientific Review - CSR organizes the peer review for all proposals to NIH.  Check here for study section rosters and information on the peer review process.

  • NIH Guide - Weekly listing of new program announcements and requests for applications, as well as notices and other NIH-wide information.

National Science Foundation - Home page for the National Science Foundation, including links to separate program areas.

  • Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences – Home page for NSF's Directorate for Social, Behavioral & Economic Sciences (SBE).  SBE funds research that contributes to our fundamental knowledge of human behavior, interaction, and social and economic systems, organizations and institutions.

  • FastLane - FastLane is NSF’s online proposal system.  From FastLane, you can submit a proposal, check the status of a proposal in review, and submit final reports and other documents.

  • Grant Proposal Guide - The GPG outlines the NSF proposal submission guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Administration for Children and Families - ACF home page, with links to information and funding opportunities.  The ACF is a sub-unit of the Department for Health and Human Services.

United States Department of Agriculture, Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service, National Research Initiative - Information about the National Research Initiative, including the annual Request for Applications.

Foundations

Alzheimer’s Association - Information and funding opportunities related to Alzheimer’s disease and its treatment.

National Endowment for Financial Education - NEFE is dedicated to helping all Americans acquire the information and gain the skills necessary to take control of their personal finances.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation - The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation seeks to improve the health and health care of all Americans.

William T. Grant Foundation - The goal of the William T. Grant Foundation is to help create a society that values young people and enables them to reach their full potential.
